«El diablo cojuelo» is the picaresque novel by Luis Vélez de Guevara, published by Espasa Calpe in paperback (120 pages, in Spanish).
Cleofás, a student, frees the devil Cojuelo from a bottle and the two roam Madrid; from the city's rooftops, the demon shows him what happens in the houses, allowing an ironic portrait of the customs, trades and vices of 17th-century Spanish society through caricatured characters.
The novel was originally published in 1641. This edition, part of the Austral Selección collection, dates from 2003 and is in Spanish.
Recommended for readers of classic Spanish literature and the Golden Age, especially for those seeking a satire of 17th-century customs.

Luis Vélez de Guevara was a Spanish dramatist and novelist. He was born at Écija and was of Jewish converso descent. After graduating as a sizar at the University of Osuna in 1596, he joined the household of Rodrigo de Castro, Cardinal-Archbishop of Seville, and celebrated the marriage of Philip III in a poem signed Vélez de Santander, a name which he continued to use until some years later.
