«El mentiroso» is the psychological suspense novel by Mikel Santiago, published by B de Bolsillo in paperback (480 pages, in Spanish).
A man wakes up in an abandoned factory next to the corpse of a stranger and a bloodstained stone, barely remembering the last forty-eight hours. He decides to investigate on his own in a small coastal town in the Basque Country where, apparently, no one has secrets from anyone. The story plays with memory and amnesia as the protagonist tries to reconstruct the events without knowing whom he can tell.
First installment of the Illumbe Trilogy. The story takes place in an environment of cliffs and houses marked by storms.
For readers of psychological thrillers and crime fiction looking for a plot set in the Basque Country.
