«El silencio roto» is the novel by Mariano García Torres, published by Algaida Editores in hardcover (394 pages, in Spanish).
Giorgi, a rootless being, goes into exile from Russia after the 1917 Revolution and emigrates to Germany, where Nazism and World War II drive him into another hell. The plot moves through the USSR, Sweden, France, Egypt, Franco's Spain and Mexico, and addresses dignity, freedom and identity in an environment hostile to his homosexuality.
The novel won the Ateneo de Sevilla Prize in 1996 and belongs to the Algaida Literaria collection.
For readers of historical and social fiction, with an interest in twentieth-century memory, totalitarianism and exile.
