«El suicidio de San Francisco» is the religious novel by Santiago Martín, published by Planeta in paperback (299 pages, in Spanish).
The novel focuses on the final stretch of the life of Saint Francis of Assisi and the depth of his spirituality. Against the gentle image that associates him with nature and the poor, it shows the saint's lesser-known face: the suffering and crossroads that marked his last years as founder of the Franciscan order.
It is part of the Planeta Testimonio collection and was published in Barcelona in 1998, with Saint Francis of Assisi (1182-1226) as the protagonist.
For readers interested in the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi, Christian spirituality, and the history of Franciscanism.
