Synopsis of El violí d'Auschwitz

En el invierno de 1991, durante un concierto en Cracovia, una anciana violinista conoce a un músico que queda cautivado por su instrumento. La mujer le revela la historia de cómo lo obtuvo: Daniel, un artesano de violines encarcelado en Auschwitz, lucha por mantener su humanidad. Un día, recibe la visita de un extraño que revela su talento. Los hombres más peligrosos del campo le proponen un trato cruel: si construye un violín en un plazo determinado, el comandante ganará una valiosa botella de vino. De lo contrario, el médico del campo, conocido por sus torturas, se apoderará de Daniel. Así, Daniel se enfrenta al agotamiento mientras intenta recuperar su arte perdido, consciente del terrible precio del fracaso. 'El violí d'Auschwitz' es un testimonio de la fortaleza del espíritu humano y del poder del arte y la esperanza para triunfar sobre la adversidad.

Maria Àngels Anglada was a Catalan poet and novelist. She was born in Vic, Spain, in 1920. She received a degree in Classical Philology at the University of Barcelona. Her first novel, Les Closes , won the 1978 Josep Pla Award. Her 1985 novel Sandàlies d'escuma won the Lletra d'Or Prize. She died in 1999.
