«Galilée» is the biography of Galileo Galilei by Ludovico Geymonat, Françoise-Marie Rosset and Sylvie Martin (Seuil, paperback, 350 pages, in French).
The book recreates the intellectual atmosphere of seventeenth-century Italy and presents Galileo as a pioneer of modern science: his astronomical discoveries, his financial difficulties and his determination to spread the idea that mathematics explains natural phenomena, until his theories triumph.
The work derives from «Galileo Galilei» (1957); this French edition appeared in 1992 in the Points Sciences collection, as number 82.
For readers interested in the history of science and in biographies of the protagonists of the scientific revolution.
