«Juegos de la edad tardía» is the novel by Luis Landero, published by Tusquets in paperback (398 pages, in Spanish).
Gregorio, an office worker whose illusions have faded, meets Gil by phone, a man who idealizes the past. Together they awaken old longings and create the character of Faroni, an idealized identity that neither ever became. The line between reality and fiction blurs, and the game ends in unforeseeable consequences.
The work won the Premio de la Crítica de Narrativa Castellana and the Premio Nacional de Narrativa. The 1997 edition is part of the Narrativa de hoy collection.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction interested in games of identity, nostalgia, and the boundary between reality and fiction.
