«La algarabía» is the novel by Spanish writer Jorge Semprún, published by Plaza & Janés in paperback (380 pages, in Spanish).
Set in the world of Spanish Republicans, the novel interweaves the Spanish Civil War and World War II with the experience of Nazi concentration camps. Memory, identity and exile run through a fragmented narrative about the effort to rebuild life after the war and human resistance in the face of barbarism.
The novel was published in 1982; the Spanish translation is by Adolfo Martín from the original L'algarabie.
For readers of historical fiction about the Spanish Civil War and Republican exile, and for those interested in the work of Jorge Semprún.

Jorge Semprún Maura was a Spanish writer and politician who lived in France most of his life and wrote primarily in French. From 1953 to 1962, during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, Semprún lived clandestinely in Spain working as an organizer for the exiled Communist Party of Spain, but was expelled from the party in 1964. After the death of Franco and the change to a democratic government, he served as Minister of Culture in Spain's socialist government from 1988 to 1991.
