On the arid planet Erato, Isaac, a fifteen-year-old orphan, must find his place in the community or be deported to certain death. To secure his future, he imports Eleanor, a stone carver from another world; but the arrival of this free-spirited and outspoken woman disrupts the fragile balance of that strange planet.
The original English edition, The Ennead, was published in 1978. This 1989 Spanish edition, with illustrations by Emilio Urberuaga, belongs to the Austral Juvenil collection (no. 65).

Jan Mark was a British writer best known for children's books. In all she wrote more than fifty novels and plays and many anthologised short stories. She won the annual Carnegie Medal from the Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book by a British subject, both for Thunder and Lightnings (1976) and for Handles (1983). She was also a "Highly Commended" runner-up for Nothing To Be Afraid Of (1980).
