La Mierlita is a popular tale adapted by Antonio Rubio and illustrated by Isidro Ferrer. The story narrates the adventures of a small blackbird that has its nest in an oak tree and has just had five little chicks. One day, a fox approaches and asks her why she is so happy. This classic tale, collected in La Vera de Plasencia (Extremadura), belongs to the archetype of animal tales where the flying species defeats the terrestrial one. It evokes vital themes such as the struggle for survival and stands out for its chained and repetitive rhythm, becoming a song that still survives in the region of origin.
Antonio Rubio Pérez was a Uruguayan journalist and politician.
