«La sombra del águila» is a historical novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, published by Nueva Narrativa in hardcover (154 pages, in Spanish).
During the Russian campaign of 1812, a battalion of Spaniards forcibly recruited by the French army tries to desert in the middle of battle. Napoleon misinterprets their advance and orders a cavalry charge that triggers a historical misunderstanding. Pérez-Reverte combines humor and tragedy in a mordant vision of war and heroism.
The novel is number 2 in RBA's Nueva Narrativa collection; the hardcover edition is from 1999.
For readers of historical fiction who appreciate acid humor and satire about war.
Periodista, ex reportero de guerra y novelista español, autor de la saga del capitán Alatriste y de novelas como La tabla de Flandes y El club Dumas.
