«L'enfer» is the novel by René Belletto, published by Points French in paperback (393 pages, in French).
Michel Soler, a man detached from his own life, is alone in a city scorched by summer. A series of kidnappings, pursuits and deceptions drags him into a machination of violence, death and ambiguous loves, as real as they are unsettling. His indifference, tenderness and suicidal humor are his weapons to escape the infernal trap.
The novel was first published in 1986 and received the Prix Femina and the Prix du Livre Inter that same year.
