«Montevideo» is the novel by Enrique Vila-Matas published by Seix Barral in paperback (304 pages, in Spanish).
In the midst of personal and literary metamorphosis, the narrator notices signs on doors and in adjoining rooms that link Paris with Cascais, Montevideo, Reykjavik, St. Gallen and Bogotá. These clues lead him back to writing and to a reflection on the ambiguity of the world, the limits of literature and the modernity of the novel.
