«Orzowei» is the young adult adventure novel by Alberto Manzi, published by La Galera in 1993 in paperback (240 pages, in Catalan).
Orzowei, meaning «found» in Bantu, tells the story of Isa, a white-skinned youth raised by the Swazi tribe, which rejects him for his origins. After the removal of the chief who protected him, Isa must flee from the village youths and pass the Great Test to regain their respect and become a warrior. The novel follows his initiation process and his attempt to stop the struggle among the three races he feels as his own, with a clear message against racism.
The work belongs to the Grumets collection from La Galera. The Catalan edition was translated from Italian by Àlvar Valls.
Recommended for young readers aged 12 and up interested in adventure and personal growth stories.
Alberto Manzi was an Italian mayor, school teacher, writer and television host, best known for his popular television show Non è mai troppo tardi, an educational TV program broadcast in Italy between 1959 and 1968.
