«Soldados de Salamina» is the historical novel by Javier Cercas, published by Random House in hardcover (208 pages, in Spanish).
In January 1939, at the end of the Civil War, Rafael Sánchez Mazas, founder of the Falange, escapes a firing squad and hides in a forest; the soldier who finds him spares his life. Sixty years later, a failed novelist investigates this episode, blending history and fiction in a reflection on memory and heroism.
Originally published in 2001, this edition was revised by the author and includes an epilogue written by him.
For readers interested in the Spanish Civil War and contemporary historical fiction.
