Joel Shore takes command of a whaling ship with two goals: to catch as many whales as possible and to locate his brother, the ship's previous captain. The latter's reappearance causes tensions on board, and the announcement of pearls hidden on an island in the South Seas ends up inciting a mutiny against the captain. Joel must then assert himself over the crew and prove he is as brave as his brothers who died at sea.
The work, translated into Spanish by Enrique de Juan, was originally published under the title «All the Brothers Were Valiant and Black Pawl»; its film version starred Robert Taylor, Stewart Granger and Ann Blyth.
Ben Ames Williams was an American novelist and writer of short stories; he wrote hundreds of short stories and over 30 novels. Among his novels are Come Spring (1940), Leave Her to Heaven (1944) House Divided (1947), and The Unconquered (1953). He was published in many magazines, but the majority of his stories appeared in The Saturday Evening Post.
