The Baltar family possesses a surprising cultural and human heritage. Attracted by the unusual profile of some of its members, Suso de Toro undertakes an investigation to reconstruct the history of this bourgeois family from Santiago de Compostela. At the center of the narration is Ramón Baltar, an eminent surgeon who, despite being an "uncomfortable element" for the dictatorship, managed to maintain a certain status in the society of the time.
