«While the Women are Sleeping» is Javier Marías's collection of short stories, published by Chatto & Windus in hardcover (144 pages, in English).
Unsettling stories about characters on the margins of society —vagrants, butlers, bodyguards, ghosts— and their perverse obsessions. In the title story, a man records his young lover and confesses his plans to a stranger; in another, a ghost is condemned to resign again and again.
Translated into English by Margaret Jull Costa. The original Spanish work is titled «Mientras ellas duermen».
For readers of contemporary literature and short stories who appreciate unsettling plots and marginal characters.
