«Woeste Willem» is the picture book by Ingrid and Dieter Schubert, published by Stichting Geef Mij Maar Een Boek in hardcover (23 pages, in Dutch).
A retired and grumpy pirate, Woeste Willem, befriends a boy and together they set out to build a ship. The plan gets complicated when Willem must admit he cannot swim. The large, colorful watercolor illustrations give rhythm to this story of friendship, overcoming challenges and accepting one's own fears.
The work originally appeared in 1992; this edition from the Geef een (prenten-) boek cadeau collection was published in 2020.
Recommended for children aged 4 and up, especially those who enjoy pirate stories and adventures of friendship.
