«Allegro bárbaro» is the novel by Spanish writer José Luis de Vilallonga, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (212 pages, in Spanish).
The action takes place in twentieth-century Barcelona and centers on a Spanish aristocratic family; among its members stands out doña Sagrario, a matriarch who rules the household. The novel portrays the environment and relationships of that social class, with domestic life as a backdrop.
Published in 1978, this edition is the translation from French by Concha Serra Ramoneda.

José Luis de Vilallonga y Cabeza de Vaca, 9th Marquess of Castellbell, GE was a Spanish nobleman, author, socialite and film actor. His peculiar character, described as "a mixture of aristocratic arrogance, self-confidence and unconcern", brought him frequent enmities with other public figures. He was known to be a multifaceted, charming, elegant and playboy-like figure. At his death in 2007, Vilallonga was referred to by several newspapers as "the last dandy".
