«Consciousness in Action» is Susan Hurley's essay on philosophy of mind, published by Harvard University Press in hardcover (520 pages, in English).
Hurley questions the model that sees perception as sensory input and action as output: they are interdependent. Drawing on Kant, Wittgenstein, neuropsychology and dynamical systems, she analyzes how consciousness and agency emerge from subpersonal processes. The self is not hidden between perception and behavior, but embodied and situated in its environment.
Work originally published in 1998 in Cambridge, Massachusetts; includes bibliographical references (pp. 467-490) and index.
Aimed at readers with training in philosophy of mind, including graduate students and researchers in neuropsychology and cognitive science.
