«Deshonrada» is the autobiographical account by Mukhtar Mai, published by Aguilar in 2006 in paperback (208 pages, in Spanish).
Mukhtar Mai tells her real story as a Pakistani woman who, after being the victim of a gang rape, decides to defy the tradition that demanded she remain silent and kill herself. Her testimony describes the humiliation she suffered and her fight to bring the perpetrators to justice, in a context of customary law and gender-based violence.
The book was written with the collaboration of Marie-Thérèse Cuny. The Spanish edition is the first, translated by Núria Petit.
For readers interested in memoirs of overcoming adversity, real-life testimonies, and the fight for women's rights in Pakistan.
