Phaedrus, the author's former alter ego, reappears as a writer and sails from Lake Superior to the Atlantic. At a lock he meets Lila, who joins the voyage. Between his relationship with her and his notes, the narrative weaves a meditation on morality, quality, and the values of American society.
Second part of the Phaedrus series, after «Zen y el arte del mantenimiento de la motocicleta». Translated by Ronald Jonkers. Nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1992.
For readers of philosophical fiction and followers of Pirsig who wish to delve deeper into the continuation of his thinking on quality.
