«The Growing Story» is the children's picture book by Ruth Krauss, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, published by HarperCollins in hardcover (40 pages, in English).
A boy, a puppy and some chicks are still very small while the garden plants grow with the spring. The boy asks his mother if he and his dog will grow too; by summer, the dog is bigger and the chicks have become hens, but he notices no changes in himself.
The English edition from HarperCollinsChildren’sBooks was published in 2007; Ruth Krauss's original story appeared in 1947.
A title intended for young children, suitable for reading aloud and sharing as a family, which invites observation of how nature changes throughout the year.
Ruth Ida Krauss was an American writer of children's books, including The Carrot Seed, and of theatrical poems for adult readers. Many of her books are still in print.
